Our Story

Michael Benezra brought his baking savvy to Chicago all the way from Israel in 1980.  He and his wife Tehiya took over North Shore Kosher Bakery from the previous owner in 1987 and quickly became THE place to go in the community for authentic and freshly made baked goods.   

Michael's passion and knowledge led to high quality offerings and a rapidly expanding product line over the years.  We have become an institution of the West Roger’s Park community, earning a reputation as a high-quality full-line bakery. We place our emphasis on traditional Jewish style breads, pastries, cookies, and custom decorated cakes and encourage our customers to share new ideas/designs to their liking.

We proudly provide our baked goods for all occasions and holidays throughout the year. Our specialty items include our Challah bread, Rye bread and our popular Pita bread— all made in the authentic Israeli style.  Certified by the Chicago Rabbinical Council (CRC) [Yoshon and Pas Yisroel], we are a strictly kosher, dairy-free establishment and do not use any preservatives in our products. 

Where can you find us?

North Shore Kosher Bakery items are located at your local grocery chain stores. Our Challah, Rye and Pita Breads are regular items at Jewel Food Stores, Mariano's, and various fruit markets.
